And the second spinal injection has passed...

AND THE SECOND SPINAL INJECTION HAS PASSED - Gruia is fine. He is sleeping right now. So please don't call us because we will not be able to answer your calls.

This time it has been much easier with finding the blood vein for the injection. The only difference from the normal IV injection is that in a spinal injection the stem cells are transplanted directly into the spine, while the "juice" containing nerves growth stimulants and the "plasma" is injected normally through IV transfusion.

It has been the second time when Gruia has had this kind of injection, but we couldn't relax for a single moment during the whole spinal injection because of the risks involved, which are much greater than in the normal IV method. The medical staff here told us that making 2 spinal injections from the total of five (or six) scheduled injections has had the best results so far for the parients. The spinal injection is performed only by the senior doctors, which is somehow reassuring, but as a parent you cannot stop making worries...

.

The nurses come to check Gruia's temperature every two hours - which is standard procedure here. This way they make sure to pick up all the early signs of an eventual stem cells rejection. But so far all the kids in the ward have had no abnormal reaction to the treatment.

Gruia will sleep three more hours or so. He will not be allowed to get out of bed or raise his head from the horizontal until 5.00-5.30 pm (China time). We're watching over him...
